If your idea of surfing is inspired by Rob Machado or the younger Mikey February then you must try a twin fin surfboard.
Twin fin surf boards are becoming increasingly popular even in our seas. If you haven't already done so, I recommend that you read our article on twin fins.
Many brands are offering modern versions of twin fin, performing and non-performing, dedicated to all those who are looking for a different approach to surfing but above all who want to surf and have fun even with small or soft waves.
We have selected 5 twin fin boards that we believe are absolutely worth trying, based on your style and level
Hayden Shapes Hypto krypto Twin
The Hypto Krypto by Hayden Shapes needs no introduction but for those unfamiliar with it, it is enough to say that it won table of the year in 2015 and is still one of the best-selling boards, still in production, in the world.
Hayden has decided to offer it in a Twin version. Based on the volumes and dimensions of the Hypto krypto the twin model guarantees you a lot of fun in a huge variety of conditions, from waist height to overhead, this TWIN FISH is super dynamic and fast. Although Hayden recommends using it with keel fins it is also very good with twin fins to suit the needs of more vertical oriented riders.
The hypto Krypto Twin has a lot of volume under the chest and a very thin dovetail to make it fast and fluid even with small waves.
For shortboard surfers, the Hypto Krypto Twin should be ridden with the same volumes as its sister (Hypto Krypto) without exceeding too much.
Channel Island Free Scrubber
The Free Scrubber is a high performance twin fin designed by Britt Merrick in collaboration with Tom Curren.
The Free Scrubber is a recreation of the magical twins since Al Merrik made about 40 years ago for Tom Curren.
Together they updated the rails making the edges thinner, so the Free Scrubber is as fast and loose as those boards, but with greater ease of handling and grip, and is the perfect twin-fin for the more thruster-oriented surfers. An agile and fast surfboard designed to give you all the freedom of a twin while letting you go into sections on the wave you didn't think possible.
It is a board with a thousand uses from the knees to over the head. It can be used both with Keel-style fins for a cleaner and more linear trim or with vertical fins to seek a more radical feel.
Brett recommends taking it 3/5 inches smaller than your performance shortboard ... in any case it's better to choose it 2/3 liters bigger than the board you usually use.
LOST Surfboard RNF '96
Round Nose Fish '96 (RNF) is a reworking of the fish models made in the 90s by Chris and Cory. Matt tried to keep the shapes by updating them to the new lines. The result is an extremely fun board that can be used in a variety of conditions.
RNF'96 builds on board building experience over the past 25 years and has been diligently tested by many such as Kolohe, Coco, Ian Crane, Crosby Cola and other "guests" in the last months of 2020.
The RNF'96 is a high performance fish that goes above expectations, an all-round board and able to guarantee you the fun on both small and formed waves.
Definitely a board to try that is good both with pure twin fins and with stabilized twin +.
The size to choose is similar to the liters of the board you usually use
Califonia Twin
Mark Richards and Matt Biolos (lost surfboard) worked together on this model creating a true small wave weapon and guaranteed fun.
based on the Mark Super twin model they drastically lowered the entry rocker, widened the nose and tail block, added a couple of centimeters of width to the overall outline, to have a good fluidity and to make the board easier and more manageable in the small waves. We flattened the deck for stability, but kept MR's classic soft rails and its modern performance tail rocker ... Ensuring the right and accurate turns.
The result is a modern twin fin fish + trailer
The size to choose is 2/3 liters larger than the board you usually use
Pukas Lady twin
As a last board I could only insert a mid length twin fin.
If you want to experience the pleasure of surfing with class, this is the board you absolutely must try. A channeled twin fin and all geared towards achieving perfection in movement. Press hard with your back foot and feel the reaction. The smoother and deeper the waves, the more you'll feel that extra boost. The water that is channeled and pushed by adding further acceleration. Just too good not to try it.
It's such a handy mid length!
Don't be afraid to take longer sizes
