Designed to deliver uncompromising performance with exceptional lift and speed, the Spitfire’s lightweight and durable construction ensures outstanding maneuverability. Advanced riders can choose from a range of front wings such as ART PRO, ART, HPS, and Spitfire, paired with rear wings like Progressive or Skinny, and mounted on short or ultrashort fuselages for enhanced maneuverability.

The Fundamentals of Foil Design

The world of wing foiling is driven by innovation and the relentless pursuit of technical perfection. Understanding the fundamentals of foil design is essential for fully appreciating the performance and features of AXIS products.

SPAN and CHORD (Wingspan and Chord Length)

  • Wingspan: This is the length of the foil from one wingtip to the other. It affects the lift and stability of the foil. A longer wingspan generally provides more lift but can also increase drag.

  • Chord Length: This is the width of the foil measured perpendicular to the wingspan. The maximum chord length is usually at the center of the wing, while the average chord length represents the average width across the entire wing. The aspect ratio, which is the ratio of the wingspan to the average chord length, is crucial for performance and maneuverability.

THICKNESS and Foil Section

  • Thickness: This is expressed as a percentage of the chord length and significantly affects the lift generated by the foil and its stability in various flying conditions. The choice of foil thickness, and the position of the maximum thickness, are critical for performance and handling.

  • Foil Section: This refers to the shape and curvature of the foil's cross-section. Different shapes, whether more rounded or sharper, influence the foil's performance. The section's shape impacts lift, drag, and overall efficiency.

Camber and Area

  • Camber: This is the degree of asymmetry in the foil's cross-sectional shape. A greater camber increases lift but also resistance. The amount of camber needs to be balanced with other design elements to optimize performance.

  • Foil Area: The total area of the foil is an important parameter, though it’s not the sole determinant of overall performance. A well-balanced combination of camber, thickness, wingspan, and chord length is essential to achieve optimal lift and speed.

Understanding and mastering these fundamentals of foil design is crucial for wing foil enthusiasts looking to maximize the potential of AXIS products.

New Foil Spitfire

Among AXIS's latest innovations, the new Spitfire foil stands out as a true engineering marvel designed to deliver uncompromised performance. The Spitfire foil is crafted with the goal of providing an unparalleled surf foiling experience, allowing you to ride the waves with the same agility as a surfer.

Imagine a foil designed specifically for surfing, enabling you to glide over the waves with the ease of a seasoned surfer. If you’re like us, you’ve dreamed of a foil that makes dropping in an exhilarating experience, lifting smoothly and predictably on the wave. This foil doesn’t just handle wave breaks but actively embraces them. Every wave is unique: sometimes you need speed, other times you must slow down while staying airborne. A foil that lets you forget everything else and focus solely on enjoying the ride. Naturally, it should also allow you to return effortlessly, ready to repeat the experience again and again.

Enter the AXIS Spitfire. Recognizable by its distinctive elliptical shape, straight median line, and lack of aggressive downward cant at the tips, the Spitfire features moderate chord lengths that taper smoothly from the center to the tips. This design encourages smooth, predictable yet precise turns. The reduced foil thickness enhances speed performance to complement the larger chords, making for an easy low-speed start.

During the development process, we subjected the Spitfire foil to rigorous testing. Smaller sizes excel with explosive turns, while larger sizes are ideal for smaller spots and bigger riders. The Spitfire front wings are versatile, capable of handling waves or flat water across disciplines like prone, SUP, winging, wake, downwind, lake pumping, and kite foiling. They do all this and much more.

The Spitfire foils are ideally paired with our Black Advance fuselage and the Progressive or Skinny rear wing ranges.

BSC: A Foil for Everyone

The BSC (Broad Spectrum Carve) foil is the cornerstone of your foiling experience, offering a versatile and forgiving design that accommodates a variety of conditions and skill levels.

Forgiving Design:
Featuring a foil section with a high angle of attack, the BSC excels at lower speeds, making it forgiving when you make mistakes during turns on a wind foil or wing foil. It will lift you effortlessly and keep you flying, even in slow or weak waves.

Versatility:
The BSC offers a broad operational range, making it the ultimate choice for diverse conditions. Whether you’re riding tiny waves on your SUP one day or cruising through the harbor with a wing the next, the BSC can handle it all.

Popular Sizes:

  • The BSC 810 is highly popular for prone foiling.
  • The BSC 1060 is the go-to foil for first-season wing foiling beginners.
  • The BSC is also an excellent choice for SUP foiling.

Rear Wing Compatibility:
BSC foils pair ideally with our rear wing ranges, including Freeride Small, Freeride, Progressive, or Speed, allowing you to tailor the setup to your specific needs and preferences.

Mast: Aluminum or Carbon?

Recent developments in foil design and performance (with high aspect ratios and wider wingspans) require stiffer, more direct, and positive connections than what is currently offered by alloy masts. Bending (lateral distortion) and torsion (rotation around the longitudinal or torsional axis) compromise the connection, control, speed, and ultimately the hydrodynamic efficiency of your foil's potential. The stiffer the mast, the better the connection to the foil system, and most importantly, the latent potential of high-performance foil designs can be fully realized.

The new Axis Power Carbon - High Modulus addresses these challenges, offering superior bending resistance compared to the stiffest alloy masts, combined with exceptional torsional resistance. The result is a positive connection feel, direct handling, immediate feedback, and ultimate control. High aspect ratio foils perform as they should, with feel and control reaching a completely new level.

The new high-modulus carbon fiber used in the construction of our mast is significantly stiffer and more durable compared to regular carbon fiber used in conventional constructions. The innovative, balanced material positioning in our proprietary manufacturing process, coupled with rigorous testing, has led to a major leap in performance.

By opting for a one-piece design, we have avoided flow/resistance and joint issues associated with multi-part mast constructions. The Axis Power Carbon mast pairs perfectly with our full range of foils, and we believe every foiling discipline will benefit from the unprecedented bending and torsional resistance integrated into our new carbon masts.

Available in three models: the Power Carbon, and the Power Carbon - High Modulus, which goes even further to provide additional strength and 35% more bending resistance for ultimate performance for demanding and heavier riders on wider front foils. At the extreme end is our PRO Ultra High Modulus mast range
