Channel Island is undoubtedly one of the most influential surfboard brands in the world. Al Merrick, founder and shaper has designed some of the most classic models in surfboard history. Channel Islands was created by Al and Terry Merrick in Santa Barbara, and Carver Skateboards was created by Neil Carver in Venice Beach. But it is not just a geographical proximity. Both share the same approach to surfing and the same passion for quality, so their meeting was natural and inevitable.

The result is a Carver Channel Island surfskate line of which the Happy is one of the most versatile and popular models. Inspired by one of Channel Island's most popular performance boards, the Happy, a performance board that adapts very well to a variety of conditions and riders even outside of competition.
Today we reveal how this surf skate Carver goes.

Carver CI Happy vs Carver Resin

Carver CI Happy

As for the size, the Carver Happy is 30.75 long and 9.75 wide and has a wheelbase of 16.75.
To make a comparison we can compare it with Resin, with one of the best known Carver models and not too distant in terms of measures.

Carver Resin's deck has the following size:

length: 31"
width: 9 7/8"
Wheelbase: 17"
Nose: 3 1/2"
Tail: 6 1/4"

So the Carver CI Happy deck is just a little shorter. We are talking about a difference of 1/4 "therefore 0,63cm. Slightly narrower with a difference of 0,31cm. The Whellbase is just shorter and is 16.75 instead of 17 as in the Resin, therefore shorter by just over half centimeter.

The concave of the deck is the same as well as the kick of the tail.

Carver CI Happy vs Carver Yago Dora

Carver CI Happy

Continuing the comparison with other well-known Carver surf skate models, we see the differences of the Carver Happy deck with the Carver Yago Dora.

Carver Yago Dora's deck has the following measures

length: 30 3/4"
width: 9 3/4"
Wheelbase: 16 3/4"
Nose: 3 3/4"
Tail: 6 1/8"

So practically identical measurements. Same length, width, wheelbase and tail... but there are some difference. The nose is different, being a little bit wider in the Yago. To be precise, we are talking about a deck half a centimeter wider at the level of the nose in the yago.

As for the concave, the Yago has a double-kick while the Happy does not.

Carver CI Happy features and driving

The Happy is a surfskate designed for the warm up of surfers before entering the water. An agile, manageable, responsive surf skate at the right point. The Carver Happy is a fast and very fun skate. Experienced surfers appreciate it because it allows very tight turns and is very responsive. But it is also a very versatile surfskate that lends itself to being used in all conditions and does not mind maneuvers in aerial parks ...

Pumping with the CI Happy skate is pretty fluid. And I remind you that we had not mounted the C7 truck but the CX which in our opinion is definitely more suitable for this surfskate. Wheelbase of 16.3 / 4 allows for quick and easy pumping. It accelerates easily even from a standstill and even in small spaces like a forecourt it's super fun.

The Happy is a handy surfskate that is very fun in flat and is ideal for training both in position and in maneuvers such as cut back, snap and drift.

In the end, despite being a surfskate designed for the warm up of experienced surfers, the Happy is a very easy skate to run and also very versatile.

The Carver Happy has concave wheels as standard. These wheels offer superior grip and are great for use on the road and on less-than-perfect terrain. Thanks to the concave wheels you can be able to pick up even more speed and you will have a skate that holds in all conditions. In contrast to the smooth park ground, they are often too gripping and it takes a little more thrust to pick up speed. Same goes for drifting. They are also done with concave wheels, but you have to move the weights well and be precise in the execution, otherwise they will not slash.

Perfect for surfers up to one meter and eighty tall and for use mainly in Flat.

This does not mean that with the Carver Happy you cannot go on ramps, artificial waves etc ... With this surfskate you can clearly do everything, but normally for vertical training a little more abundant decks are preferred that facilitate you in the maneuvers ... but if you are an experienced skater you may be better off performing your tricks with a more compact skate.

Our advice.

We recommend the Happy to all intermediate to expert surfers looking for a surfskate to practice surfing out of the water and who are up to approximately 1.80cm tall.

Recommended with CX trucks

Do you want to warm up in the square before each session? Do you want to train in pumping as in any surf maneuver and have the sensations of your board under your feet? Go for Happy.
