Gera Lario is the first spot that one encounters from Colico in the direction of Menaggio, climbing the lake on the Como side. It is one of the windiest areas of Lake Como thanks to Breva: the characteristic thermal wind blowing from the south.
In Gera Lario you leave the leeward meadow at the port. Kite zone and windsurfing area are regulated and care must be taken not to cross the border! The spot is located on a large equipped lawn: ample parking, bar, tourist port, basketball courts, beach volleyball, tennis and football, children's playground. A unique feature of this part of the lake is the shallow and sandy bottom which facilitates entry into the water.
On the spot you can find all the assistance you need as there is a school and a well organized kite area. Generally less crowded than Colico.
How to get
From Colico proceed in the direction of Madesimo-Chiavenna. Once in Gera, after the church, before the bend in front of the pharmacy, turn left into the Hotel Lario clearing and continue to the port car park
Beach
A large lawn that slopes down to the lake. The shore is formed by pebbles. Many services including parking, bar, pizzeria, school and kitesurf equipment rental. The kite area is the one south of the Inganna stream
Twenty
Breva: thermal wind from April to late October. It generally rises around midday and sometimes stays until evening, but works best in the early hours of the afternoon.
Regulations
Beware of raising and lowering the wing. If you are a beginner, get help.
Always remake the bar to optimize ground clearance.
