Carlo Grotti Trevisan, Jack to his friends, 20 years of surfing behind him, between competitions, injuries and travels, today presents us with a British brand of surfboards not very well known in Italy. We are talking about Shibui, a brand that stands out for the unmistakable style of its surfboards, with graphics that give a nod to Japanese souls and the culture of the rising sun.
Carlo, after having been part of teams such as Billabong and LSD, is now in his third year of collaboration with Shibui, and after the first pro model they developed together, the Okinawa, the second model, the Amami, was recently presented.
Like Okinawa, Amami is also an island in Japan, famous for its waves, heat and beaches. Both boards developed in collaboration with Carlo stand out for their "small wave" vocation. They are two boards designed for our homespots and to give maximum fun even in less than perfect conditions. The new Amami is designed for small waves, typical of summer swells in the Mediterranean. It is a board that tries to maintain agility, becoming shorter and more voluminous than a shortboard, the so-called groveler.
The size that Carlo uses is 5'8 with a total of about 38 liters of volume.
Compared to the Okinawa (5'5 x 34 liters) it was decided to lengthen the board and increase the volume, so that it can also be used in very small summer conditions.
The graphics are a sort of summer version of the previous one, where before we found a Geisha with a kimono, on the beach, now there's a girl in a bikini, inspired by Jade, Carlo's Brazilian wife, interpreted in an anime/manga version by Deshen Adiguna, Indonesian draftsman and illustrator.
