Slide Surfskate: How are they doing?

Our first impressions of skate slides

Slide Surfskate is probably the number one challenger for Carver, the top inventor of surfskate, the one we all think of when we talk about surfskate. But Carver is not for everyone, mainly because of the price, not exactly popular.

Slide Surfskate is aimed at those who do not feel like spending such a figure on a skate, but would still like one of these toys to have fun on flat days, train in surfing or simply spend some time outdoors with something new.

But the completely legitimate question is: are these Slide Surfskates up to the Carver? Let's be honest: their price is about half of a carver, but the quality? In short, is it worth buying one or are they just another low cost not up to expectations? And this is obviously also the question we asked ourselves. That's why we couldn't wait to try them.

We have had a couple of these new Slide Surfskates with us for just a week, so it is still too early to write a complete test and declare a possible winner in this head to head, but we can anticipate our first impressions after using them a little .

In the hands the slides are presented very well. Solid, beautiful to look at, well finished. I don't know exactly what we expected, certainly less, but as soon as we got on it we thought WOW. These surfskates inspire an excellent feeling from the first moment. The movement is extremely fluid, the response very good, excellent smoothness too.

In particular, we used the Swallow33, a fairly long surfskate which with its 33 inches is the longest in the range. Length and wide nose give it excellent stability, which is very appreciated in cruising, but despite the length it has also proved agile enough to be fun and to turn very tight.

But let's get to the front truck . The system has a geometry that allows the table to tilt very well, but what has struck us in a more than positive way is the answer. The internal spring ensures a nice active rebound. In practice pushing on the table you can feel the return thrust that allows you to gain speed.

The result is that pumping with this surfskate is really easy and immediate even for a beginner and children included.

Going back to the initial question, how the Slide Surfskates are going, our answer even after such a short time is certainly that they are doing well , really very well, and probably better than we expected.

To answer the question if they are comparable to a Carver, it is still too early. As fluidity and feeling, the first impression is that they are certainly up to the rivals most famous and expensive. From these first carves the impression is that only the most technical and aggressive riders can regret having wanted to save. Another matter is the durability of the materials and the maintenance. The truck seems a little more delicate at the moment, but we will certainly have to reevaluate this aspect in a few weeks.

Should I buy a Surfskate Slide?

Definitely yes , especially if you want to try a surfskate for the first time to take away a whim, if you are looking for a pastime to add to the other boards you already have among surf, kitesurf, sup, snowboard. Buying one of these slides for sure you will not regret it, on the contrary once you have tried it I doubt that you will be able to do without it.

If, however, you are already a fan of surfskate and get on your board every day or almost, then we believe that a Carver is an investment that is still worth the effort and, in the long run, well worth the expense. Carver has a range with models for all tastes, two trucks with very different behavior and after all the only real flaw is the price.
