Features Holy Toledo 33

Surfskate Smoothstar Holy Toledo 33

Holy Toledo is a surfskate from Smoothstar's Promodel series, developed in collaboration with pro surfer Filipe Toledo, when he was 19. Filipe Toledo, nick name "Holy Toledo", professional surfer in the WSL Top 10 has combined in this model the speed characteristics of the Manta with the maneuverability of the Flying Fish in order to best express his surfing style.

The shape of this board is optimized for a very aggressive and radical style of surfing, with a slightly wider deck than other smoothstar surf skate and a slightly more pronounced kocktail. In addition, the concave of the board allows you to get tighter lines, more aggressive bottom turns and practice all aerial maneuvers to the fullest.

As for measurements, Holy Toledo is 33 inches long and just over 10 inches wide.

So a nice wide deck that offers a lot of support for the feet.

The wheelbase deserves a reflection as smoothstar indicates it differently from other brands in its technical data sheet.

Reason why, meter in hand, we give you a couple of measurements to be able to compare it with other surfskates. The distance between the holes in the deck which is 47cm and the distance between the centers of the wheels which is 46cm.

How is the Smoothstar Holy Toledo doing

Surfskate Smoothstar Holy Toledo 33

As soon as you get on it the feeling is of a very soft skate underfoot but also stable . The wide deck is felt offering a feeling of control and security.

Smoothstar mounts a truck on a tilting plate where rebounding is given by the compression of a spring. In practice, the more you push, the more it responds and accelerates. The skate starts easily even when stationary and accelerates immediately. You can start pumping to generate stationary speed.

The combination of truck, rather narrow wheelbase and inclined risers under the rear truck ensure great agility and handling.

Holy Toledo practically turns on itself and allows you to have fun and simulate surf maneuvers in flat in very little space. Despite this Holy Toledo is a very stable surf skate. The feeling under the feet is of a very very fluid skate , which curves tightly  thanks to the distance between the wheels of just over 18 ".

The narrow wheelbase makes the skate agile, however the downside is, of course, that the surfskate becomes more difficult to control downhill and at high speeds.

But the Toledo, like most surfskates, isn't made for going fast. If you want to face descents or speed competitions you need other types of skate ... this is done for training in surfing, even at low speed, flat as on ramps or artificial waves.

As for ramps and artificial waves, Holy Toledo is confirmed as an extremely manageable surf skate . The shape of the deck so wide helps to push well with your feet and above all gives you confidence with a secure footing. The soft truck helps to fold and turn tight. The short wheelbase makes the board easy to turn and very playful.

The wheels , although they are not among the largest and softest we have used on a surfskate, we must say that they have a good grip. On the road they are not among the most comfortable but all in all the vibrations and irregularities of the ground do not bother and on the smooth ground of the park in which we tested it they are really perfect ... super-sliding!

If at this point you are thinking that Holy Toledo is a surfskate only for Pro Surfer, we must say that it is absolutely not the case. This smoothstar is really very very easy . The beginners we tried it all found themselves very well right away because it is easy to accelerate and because the large deck gives so much safety. And the same goes for the guys who, although very light, can pump easily.

NOTE

Surfskate Smoothstar Holy Toledo 33

Holy Toledo came to us with a somewhat unbalanced factory setting. The front truck is very soft and the rear is a little too stiff. We put a pin of grease on the front and rear bushing and adjusted the rear bushing to get our perfect setting!
