SURFSKATE

Surfskate Yow Lowers 34 and La jolla 35

Here are the two new Yow 2023 models in comparison

Like every year, Yow presents us in this period the new surfskate models that we will see around from spring 2023. Let's take a closer look at the two new models that have most attracted our attention and that we have been able to touch with hand (and foot) up close, so as to understand which one to choose between the two, if you are thinking about it.

We are talking about the Yow Lowers 34 and the Yow La Jolla 35. Two surfskates that share beautiful long and wide decks but far from similar in terms of handling.

Surfskate Yow Lowers 34

The Lowers 34 is a new surfskate model from the Hight Performance Series. A model designed for those who want to take surfskate to the limit. It features a nice pronounced concave, perfect for any bowl and vertical ramps. Tail rocker and wide nose offer more confidence and control in tight turns and aerial maneuvers. The short 17-inch wheelbase makes the skate very reactive and allows for very tight turns. Mounted with the Meraki system (S5) and Ura 66x51mm 78A wheels for maximum grip even on smooth surfaces and comfort even on rough asphalt.

Decks:

Length 34"

Width: 10.5"

Wheel base: 17"

Concave: High

Rocker: Tail & Nose Rocker

Setup:

Meraki S5 trucks

Surfskate Yow La Jolla 35

The surfskate La Jolla 35 is the new model of the Power Surfing Series, the longest of the series. Its 35 inches speak for themselves: it is an ideal surfskate for maintaining control in a powerful turn as it always allows you to comfortably control your body position, even at high speeds. La Jolla is an all terrain board that facilitates stability. The concave is medium and the width of the board is generous from nose to tail. A board made to offer more than good support in all conditions.

Compared to other Performance and Power Series models, the La Jolla has a Wheelbase of 21 inches, which makes it very wide. This is ideal for those surfers who want to maintain good distance between the feet even on asphalt, allowing more control in high speed turns and at the same time precision in more vertical turns and also in air and slide thanks to its tail rocker. Mounted with the Meraki system (S5) and Ura 66x51mm 78A wheels for maximum grip even on smooth surfaces and comfort even on rough asphalt.

Decks:

Length 35"

Width: 10.5"

Wheel base: 21"

Concave: Medium

Rocker: Tail Rocker

Yow Lowers 34 and La jolla 35 differences and similarities

As we have seen from the specifications, these are two surfskates with large decks: 34'' for the Lowers and 35'' for the La Jolla. Same 10.5 width for both. So far they would seem very similar, but be careful, they are not. The Whellbase of the Lowers is just 17, while it reaches 21 for La Jolla. This substantial difference means several things. First of all that the Lowers turns much tighter and feels snappier under acceleration. On the other hand, the longer wheelbase in the La Jolla helps maintain control as the speed picks up. Secondly, the wheelbase affects the possibility of widening the wheelbase: a wide WB allows you to widen the wheelbase without the front foot leaning beyond the front truck. Finally, the last difference concerns the concave of the deck. The Lowers have a more pronounced concave and rocker in both the tail and nose. La Jolla on the other hand has a shallower rocker and rocker only in the tail.

These differences make the Lowers a more responsive, snappy and agile surfskate than the La Jolla. In conclusion, we recommend the Lowers to all surfers who use the surfskate even in parks, bowls and vertical structures. You don't need to be very tall to appreciate the Lowers because its wheelbase is narrow and therefore fits well with those who don't have their feet too wide when riding.

We recommend the La Jolla to tall and powerful surfers who like to train in deep carves and maybe tackle some descents at high speed. La Jolla is an ideal surfskate also for snowboard training. In most cases you will have no difficulty using it in the same pitch that you use on your snowboard. Its wide wheelbase makes it a great tool to simulate snowboard carving and train your muscles.
