If you love surfskate, you know how difficult it is to choose the right board. Shape, length, concavityà, wheels--every detail affects the feel and performance. That's whyé YOW decided to do an extreme test: a week in Barcelona with 24 different boards and five riders with completely different styles. The goal? To figure out which board best suits each type of skater and, of course, have a lot of fun in the process.
The Team: five ways to experience surfskate
YOW has put together a crazy group of riders, each with a unique story and style:
. Hortense Boudet: background as a dancer, loves longer, flowing boards. Her surfskate è a fusion of dance and surf, always with lots of style.
. Lenart Oblak: a lifelong snowboarder and skater, his approach è super creative and his flow è among the smoothest we've ever seen.
. Luca Lütkebohle: an engineer and surfer for years, è a powerhouse of energy and creativity. His favorite setup? The Christenson Skalle 34" with Eki 60x40mm 101a wheels.
. Pau Fuentes: a true master of movement, incredible skater and surfer, known for his instructional tutorials and perfectly executed maneuvers.
Jan Bein: grew up in Barcelona, started surfing at a very young age and now competes at a high level. A skater since childhood, he always combines skate and surf in his style.
.
During the last part of the test she è also joined Paola Flores, crazy local skater, who tried our Surf Cruisers on the streets of Barcelona.
The Test: a week in Barcelona between spots and surfskate
.
Barcelona è an incredible city for surfskate: endless spots, smooth roads, perfect transitions. For a whole week, our team tried all kinds of boards in different conditions, from relaxed cruising to more radical maneuvers.
Each rider experimented with different shape boards, testing how they change stability, control, and fluidity; depending on their needs. The result? Everyone found their favorite, but most importantly we got confirmation that the choice of board totally depends on your riding style.
Conclusions: what è the perfect board?
.
The truth; è is that there is no perfect board for everyone, but there is the perfect board for you. If you want a more fluid, dancing experience, long boards like Hortense's are for you. If you love more aggressive and technical riding, you will probably do better with a setup like Luca's. If, on the other hand, you want a mix of surf and skate, Jan è living proof that you canò combine the best of both worlds.
