Fone Bandit XII 2019

Test and review of the new Bandit kite

For several weeks we have been testing and using the new Bandit XII 2019 in the 8mq size. We have therefore decided to share our impressions with you, also collecting comments and impressions from other riders who have been using this wing for a while. It is a summary of the "hot" impressions of both beginner and expert kiters who have used the kite in various conditions and disciplines, so with both twint tip and surfino and even with hydrofoil.

The Bandit is a sail that does not need big introductions: F-One's strong point now for 12 years.
The Bandit is a Delta C Shape (Fone patent) with 3 struts.
On paper it is a truly versatile kite, a single sail to do everything from freestyle to waveriding ... and why not, even a little foil!
But let's see the impressions of those who tried it.

Bandit XII Grounded

The materials do not go unnoticed: beautiful fabric, well-made stitching, nice reinforcements, very neat details and even beautiful colors.
The one pump system has a single valve for inflation and deflation and with a large connection for not wasting time.
Front bridles with 3 pulleys per side.
Setting: the Backs that have an adjustable V-attack with two knots. The first node corresponds to a lower pressure on the bar and greater maneuverability, the opposite to the second node.

The LINX Fone Bar

The bar we used was the LINX (normal, not the freestyle version). The Fone Linx is a really beautiful bar, solid, clean, without frills but well finished ... in short, the type of bar that creates few problems, even over time. The lines are renewed and promise 30% less elongation due to use.
Very comfortable grip. Quick and easy quick release: push forward and the Chicken Loop opens. 22-meter lines.
The bar can be adjusted in width (to use a bar with two kites) and in addition it allows a back adjustment with 5 knots.

The Bandit XII in action

When the Bandit is raised for the first time, one has the impression of having always had it in his hands: the feeling is immediate.
The feeling on the bar is medium: light but not so much as not to perceive the sail.
Depower is very precise and works on very small distances.

In water, the quality that we most appreciated, from the first instant, is the precise and ready maneuverability of the Bandit: the speed of rotation of the kite is rapid and the sail rotates delivering constant power at all times. The kiteloops are tight and the kite turns fast closing the loops well. The response to the bandit commands is always fast and ready. Anywhere in the window there is feedback on the bar.
The Bandit is a kite that immediately inspires confidence because its behavior is always predictable and you always know where it is.

In gait the Bandit has a shot is quite central, but still has a good window of flight and a good bowline.
The bandit absorbs the gusts well, even in gusts it does not shake, it does not wave, it does not deform. On the other hand it floats well in wind holes or when the lines become loose, for example, because you ended up too far down for a failed jump, always going to reposition yourself in the window.

As far as the wind range is concerned, we have found it very broad, both in the low end and, above all, in the high end. Let's say an experienced 70kg rider can use the 8mq from 15 knots up to 25/28 knots.

In freestyle, the bandit XII is a kite that delivers a nice power on demand and also has a good lift. Although not a pure freestyle kite, it is able to give more thrust than most of the multi-purpose or freeride sails. So it's a lot of fun both for the twists with the twintip and for pop maneuvers both hoocked and unhooked.

In wave riding it is appreciated above all for its easy handling and prompt response to the controls, but also for its ability to almost completely foil and continue to float in the air.

Also in the foiling it behaves well thanks to the very progressive power supply and always under control and to its good buoyancy in the air.

In conclusion all the riders who have tried the Bandit XII have had an excellent feeling with the sail, finding themselves immediately at ease from the first edges, thanks to its prompt and precise response to the controls, to its stability in the air and in general to its predictability.

To whom we recommend it

The Bandit is indeed a super-versatile sail, as promised. A maneuverable and predictable wing that we really recommend to anyone, including beginners. Perfect for all those looking for a sail that allows them to do a little bit of everything: freeride, freestyle, even strapless, surfing. If your idea of ??A single sail to do a little of everything and with a range that allows you to get away with only 2 measurements.
