kitesurf bag for travel

Choose the bag for transporting equipment

Summer is coming, a kitetrip period in search of the wind towards more or less distant and more or less exotic destinations. For those who will reach their holiday destination by car, no problem, but if you have to board your equipment on an airplane, it is essential to pack a good board and sail in a suitable travel bag.

Unfortunately the regulations on the transport of kitesurf equipment by plane vary from one airline to the other as well as the costs. For example, many companies do not apply any surcharge, provided that the baglio allowance is respected, while other airlines charge a high price for the transport of sports equipment. For this reason, before each flight it is essential to read the airline regulations carefully.

Here are 3 tips for transporting our kitesurf equipment by plane.

1. Attention to weight and size
It seems trivial, but the number one rule is often underestimated. In fact, many think that since they pay extra for transporting sports equipment, they can then transport anything. Well, obviously it's not like that. On Ryanair for example your equipment should not weigh more than 20kg. Many companies, on the other hand, allow a bag weighing up to 23kg to be carried free of charge. Some airlines have length limits or the sum of the three sides of the bag must not exceed a certain size. In short, it is a must to inform yourself first.

2. Attention to protect your equipment from shocks
We are often so obsessed with the weight of our bag that we do not think how delicate, as well as precious, our beloved equipment can be. Especially if you travel with surfboards or kitesurf surfs, it is essential to make sure you pack your equipment to avoid unpleasant surprises. For example, be careful to remove the fins from the board and store them together with screws and screwdrivers in a bag in a pocket of the bag, or be careful that the harness hook or your kite pump does not press on your surfboard, just to give an example.

3. Check that everything is in place before leaving the airport.
After the flight, when you retrieve your equipment, open the bag and carefully check that there are no shots. In case of problems, any dispute must be made to the Lost and Found office of the airport, before leaving.

Which travel bag to choose to carry kitesurfing equipment by plane

When choosing a travel bag there are various factors to be evaluated. First of all, obviously what kind of equipment we have to transport: how many boards and of what type and size, how many sails, how many and which accessories. The weight and the stuffing of the bag are fundamental factors to be evaluated. The presence or not of the wheels, for example, greatly affects the weight of the bag, but it is clear that they are useful, especially if you intend to store a lot of material inside the bag. Finally, my advice is in the doubt of abounding a little on the measure, without exaggerating, so as to have some extra space for some extra accessories, always useful as a repair kit.

Here is an overview to find your way and choose the travel bag that best suits your needs, including those available on Amazon.
